Today, we are currently facing the era of “Disruption.” In line with this development, the 2018 Asian University Presidents Forum (AUPF) which will be held on 6-8 November 2018 chooses to highlight the phenomenon of “Disruption” in its main theme. “Leaders in education need to identify the potentials of disruptive technologies for their benefit in order to avert the disruptive powers of these technologies,” the Rector of Petra Christian University, Prof. Dr. Ir. Djwantoro Hardjito, M.Eng., emphasized.

Petra Christian University (PCU) will host the forum that brings together the leaders of higher education institutions from all over Asia. This forum will be attended by approximately 200 delegations consisting of university presidents and accompanying officials from more than 100 higher education institutions in Asia. With the theme “Disruption at the Cross Roads: Innovative Engagement and Future Challenges for Higher Education,” Petra Christian University has prepared a series of events during the forum that are not only interesting, but will also generate thoughtful and fruitful discussions as well as networking opportunities for the participants.

In fact, the 2018 AUPF meeting also receives full support from the Government of Surabaya for the City Tour and Welcome Dinner. The Mayor of Surabaya, Dr. (H.C) Ir. Tri Rismaharini, M.T. herself, has sponsored the city tour, allowing participants to visit some important and historical venues in Surabaya, some of which are not usually open for public. Among others, some of the locations that will be visited are the Jalesveva Jayamahe Monument, which is 30.6 meters tall and is located at the end of the pier facing towards the Island of Madura. Not only that, participants will also visit the Harmoni Keputih Park, which was once the site for Surabaya’s biggest landfills, and has now become one of the greenest and the most beautiful parks in Surabaya.

Participants will also be able to visit Koridor Co-Working Space which was created by the government of Surabaya as a part of their commitment to create conducive environment that allows creators, innovators, and local entrepreneurs to take part in the global market place. Afterwards, the participants will also have a sneak peek of the Command Center 112, which is a special emergency call center serving Surabaya citizens much like the 911 service in the United States. In the evening, the Mayor of Surabaya, Dr. (H.C) Ir. Tri Rismaharini, M.T., will host the guests in a welcome dinner sponsored by the Government of Surabaya.

While the rest of the participants are joining the city tour, members of the AUPF Standing Committee will meet in the Standing Committee Meeting. They will join the rest of the participants for the Welcome Dinner.
